I have always been a fan of outdoor activities and over the years have tried my hand at canoeing, canyoning, mountain biking, rafting, surfing, flying (and jumping out of) planes amongst other things, all of which I have always really enjoyed, but my regular activity of late has been climbing. Since September last year me and my family all became members of a fantastic indoor climbing centre called Dart Rock in Buckfastleigh.
The centre is run by Paula and Robbie Warke along with a wonderful group of friendly, fun and helpful staff. Dart Rock is a fantastic venue with an amazing atmosphere and I must admit that both myself and my son are now totally addicted to climbing!
Paula and Robbie have a fantastic approach and as well as running a successful business they have also managed to find some great ways to raise money for the ShelterBox charity, who do some much needed work particularly at the moment with the situation in Haiti.
You may be asking what any of this has to do with FIRST4TECH? Well the answer is that we are very proud to have sponsored Dart Rock by helping them to install a new computer based music system at the centre. We introduced them to Spotify which we installed on an existing Laptop and then connected the audio output to 4x JBL speakers which are mounted around the climbing area. These are driven by a decent Teac amplifier enabling everyone at the centre to enjoy music whilst climbing. This is now being used to raise money for ShelterBox as climbers can choose the music that’s playing for a small donation.
Why not give climbing a try? The guys at Dart Rock will really look after you and I’m sure that you’ll soon become as addicted as I am!
